China launched a host of missiles over the waters surrounding Taiwan and began aggressive live-fire military drills surrounding the island nation in the wake of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s “legacy-building” trip.

Chinese state media released the following map of Taiwan showing in red where their “live-fire drills” are going to take place:

“Joint military exercises around the island of Taiwan by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) continued Wednesday with a joint blockade, sea assault and land and air combat trainings, involving the use of advanced weapons including J-20 stealth fighter jets and DF-17 hypersonic missiles after the drills started on Tuesday evening, when US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi landed on the island which seriously violates China’s sovereignty,” China’s Global Times reported.

“The exercises are unprecedented as the PLA conventional missiles are expected to fly over the island of Taiwan for the first time, the PLA forces will enter area within 12 nautical miles of the island and that the so-called median line will cease to exist, experts said, noting that by surrounding Taiwan entirely, the PLA is completely blockading the island demonstrating the Chinese mainland’s absolute control over the Taiwan question.”

In a video that went viral on social media, former Taiwan diplomat Jieh Wen-chieh was seen raging at Pelosi for “pouring oil on the flames” of region tensions with her visit.

“Are you here to support Taiwan or to provoke a war?” Wen-chieh ranted. “What the hell are you doing here, Pelosi? The relationship between the mainland and Taiwan is already very tense! Supporting Taiwan? We don’t need your support! You’re literally pouring oil on the flames! You’ll only make things worse!”

Pelosi said Wednesday that Chinese officials are only angry over her visit to Taiwan because she’s a woman.
